ABOUT US

Nexus Therapy recognizes that every child possesses unique needs and tailors treatment for each child accordingly. Clinicians work closely with parents to develop an individualized treatment plan that guarantees success for every child based on their individual learning style. Our therapists with children to build critical skills, such as language comprehension, communication, social skills, play skills.  To meet the needs of children and their families, Nexus Therapy provides services in multiple settings, including in the client’s home, daycare and school.

OUR TEAM

Our therapy  team consists of registered Speech-Language Pathologists and Speech Language Pathology Assistants with with experience in the treatment of pediatric and adult population in a variety of settings.  Our goal is to help your child develop important functional skills and be successful in life.  Our experienced Speech-Language Pathologists and Behaviour Therapy staff provide individually tailored therapy services for children in the comfort of their home, school or daycare.  No preparation is required since our therapists come equipped with all the necessary materials for a fun, engaging and successful therapy experience.

 

Our treatment approach encourages active collaboration with the parents throughout the program. We believe that having a continuous ongoing communication between parents and therapists is important to monitor progress closely and achieve the best outcomes for the child. 

Speech-Language Pathologists

 

Karen Mayner, Speech-Language Pathologist, R.SLP, CSHPBC

Karen Mayner has a Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology and is currently registered with the Alberta College of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (ACSLPA) and the College of Speech and Hearing Health Professionals of British Columbia (CSHBC).  Karen has extensive clinical experience providing assessment, consultation and treatment services to children, adolescence and adults in a variety of settings. She has worked with clients with disorders in developmental language, social communication, voice, swallowing, articulation and phonology, motor speech, cognitive communication, fluency and children with autism spectrum disorder.  Karen also provides treatment for aphasia and accent reduction.

Samra Hussain, Speech-Language Pathologist, R.SLP, ACSLPA

Samra earned her Bachelor’s Degree in behavioural sciences from Fatima Jinnah University, Pakistan, and earned her Master’s of Science in Speech and Language Pathology from Riphah Institute of Health and Medical Sciences. She has over 6 years of experience and expertise in assessing, evaluating and treating children with a variety of speech and language disorders within the school systems, hospital and clinical set-ups. She has worked with children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, fluency disorders, Down Syndrome, articulation disorders, and early language delays. Samra is multilingual and can cater to a large variety of clients in English, Urdu, and Hindi. Samra is certified in many essential programs related to speech and language therapy, in-cluding the Hanen It Takes Two To Talk program, Learning Language and Loving it, PROMPT, the LIDCOMBE program, and Makaton, a language program using signs and symbols for communication. Samra is dedicated to her profession and cares deeply about her clients. She is professional, patient, and client-focused.

Saira Damani, Speech-Language Pathologist, R.SLP, ACSLPA

Saira completed her Masters in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Alberta and is currently registered in good standing with the Alberta College of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (ACSLPA).  Saira serves the Edmonton area and has experience in the treatment of pre-school and school age children with speech and  language delays and disorders.  Saira is passionate about customizing her approach to meet the unique needs of each client, including developing meaningful treatment goals and therapy activities. She strives to implement the best evidence-based interventions that will maximize positive communication outcomes for her clients, and continues to develop her clinical skills by participating in workshops and training programs.
